Two-thirds of tweets about Progressive are negative

That number is sure to increase, as the insurer continues to fumble its response to a PR crisis.

According to TweetFeel, 65 percent of tweets about the insurer are negative. The service tracks tweets as they roll in, so the number fluctuates, although for most of Wednesday afternoon it hovered above 60 percent. On Thursday morning, a search on Sentiment140 found that 67 percent of tweets containing @Progressive were negative.

“Progressive insurance should be ashamed … Americans should not allow these creeps to get away this shit,” said one person on Twitter.

Neither service is perfect, as many of the tweets they consider positive or neutral fall into the negative category, and vice versa.

Progressive has issued three responses to the claim that it paid for the legal defense of a driver who killed a young woman who had Progressive insurance.

The first response was a robo-tweet.
