Unilever to test coupons on mobile phones

On Sunday, Unilever will become the first company to offer coupons on shoppers’ cell phones that cashiers can redeem at the register by scanning the mobile device. Unilever will test the campaign at a ShopRite store in New Jersey, and will include coupons for popular products like Breyers ice cream, Dove soap, Hellmann’s mayonnaise and Lipton tea. The Wall Street Journal said that Samplesaint, a Chicago mobile-technology firm, developed the system.
