A statement from the airline notes that the pilot and his crew ‘were in control of the situation at all times.’

Reuters photographer Beawiharta, onboard the aircraft with his wife, their three children, told the press that a stewardess informed passengers of the incident, giving way to collective prayer on the plane. Thankfully, the prayer was short-lived, as the pilot successfully landed the aircraft. Describing the incident, Beawiharta said: “Within five minutes, as firefighters doused the damaged engine, we walked off the plane into the terminal.” The airlines said in a statement of its crew: "We can appreciate the concern, anxiety felt by the passengers during the incident, but our captain, his crew were in control of the situation at all times. They reacted exactly as they are trained to do, shut down the affected engine, returned the aircraft safely to Singapore." Nevertheless, after clearing the aircraft, it was the airline Captain Bradley Chic that had praise to give—to that of his passengers. The failed engine, a Rolls-Royce powered Trent 700, isn’t the first in recent past to endanger flyers. In November, a Qantas A380 also made an emergency landing in Singapore when its Rolls-Royce engine blew in mid-air.
