“Breaking: Two Explosions in the White House and Barack Obama is injured,” the AP tweeted.

Politico reports that the verification came during Carney’s daily briefing during which time AP White House correspondent Julie Pace informed him of the apparent hack.

According to Mashable, the news organization quickly suspended its @AP Twitter account following the compromise, using its staff, as well as its other Twitter channels to debunk the fabricated news:

All: The main @ap Twitter account has been hacked, The tweets coming out of there are false. We are working to correct the problem.
