With strike looming, Village Voice starts publishing on Tumblr
If their demands aren’t met, unionized staffers at the New York alt-weekly will strike. They plan to deliver content via Tumblr, where Village Voice Media can’t sell ads. UPDATE: Looks like the strike has been averted.
Unionized staffers at New York’s venerable alt weekly the Village Voice are preparing to go on strike this weekend if their demands are met. Seems they’re bothered by salary cuts and declining benefits (show me a newspaper employee who isn’t these days).
Just because they’re on strike doesn’t mean hipsters and pseudo intellectuals will be alt news-less. Village Voice staff plans to publish content directly to Tumblr, where Village Voice Media won’t be able to sell ads against the content.
