WSJ: ‘The’ and ‘a’ falling out of favor among marketing writers

Drop the article from the name of your product and it might ‘take on a more iconic feel,’ say some marketers.

The Wall Street Journal points out in a recent article that marketers are omitting articles such as “the” and “a” when trying to sell their newfangled products. The article focuses on a few products whose marketing efforts do not include articles “a” or “the,” including Amazon’s Kindle, Nintendo’s Wii, and Apple’s group of i-products.

Allen Adamson, managing director of WPP Group, suggests to WSJ, “When you can drop an article, the brand takes on a more iconic feel.”
