Yearbook gaffe offers an enduring lesson
Student editors used inappropriate ‘filler’ text in photo captions; correcting the error is a major undertaking.
One or more of the yearbook editors for a high school in Washington state made the mistake of leaving in place cruel captions about two freshmen girls—derogatory comments about their weight—instead of replacing them with their names.
The yearbook staff didn’t catch the mistake until it was much, much, much too late; the result was embarrassment for all concerned, as well as a tedious, unnecessary chore.
This makes the case, of course, for using lorem ipsum as filler text. It’s easily spotted, and if it’s not replaced, it’s inoffensive.
