Sometimes, a fresh approach is all it takes to change an industry.

In 1993, using an $85,000 loan from his dad, Chipotle founder and CEO Steve Ells set out to change the way people perceived fast food.

This unique spin on the fast-food restaurant business brought with it fresh ingredients and an interior design reminiscent of higher-end counterparts.

Now worth $13.4 billion, Chipotle’s take on fast food appears to have paid off.

Chipotle has also taken an innovative approach to its management development system. Its restaurateur program gives hourly employees the opportunity to move up through the ranks, with the possibility of eventually becoming a manager and earning more than $100,000 a year.
