What a week! Location-based social networking goes open source; LinkedIn jumps into the news (aggregation) business; and the hot app of SXSW emerges—before the festival even launches.

This week we’re looking at a donation platform that’s like PayPal for charities, a major development from LinkedIn, a useful tool that helps you check for vanity Facebook URLs, and two developments from the geo-location space that are worth keeping an eye on.
