5 ways Twitter has changed the world

To mark Twitter’s fifth anniversary this week, The Wall blog examines the many ways the social media platform has acted as a global game changer. Is it safe to say Twitter is no longer a fad?

It wasn’t that long ago. In 2009, Nielsen published a study that inspired Businessweek to declare: “Twitter is a fad.”

In the two years since that story ran, Twitter has become a global game changer: fueling revolutions, bolstering political campaigns, sparking PR firestorms, and more.

This week, Twitter turns 5, and the social media and marketing blog The Wall listed five ways Twitter has changed the world since its launch on March 21, 2006.
