7 ways Pinterest can boost your SEO

Add keywords to your pins, link Pinterest to Facebook, and more to boost your company’s search ranking.

Although Pinterest is one of the fastest growing social networks, not many people are taking the time to cash in on the search engine optimization (SEO) benefits it has to offer.

Here are a few ways to use Pinterest to boost your search ranking.

1. Link Pinterest to Facebook.

Pinterest allows you to link your activity to Facebook so all your pins and repins on Pinterest will appear on your Facebook wall, as well as the Facebook ticker.

You can also promote your pins on Twitter and Flickr. These are good opportunities to showcase your pins on other social networks.

2. Take advantage of link-building opportunities.

As Pinterest’s domain authority grows, your pins will have higher visibility in search engine results. (The more popular a domain name, the more likely it will appear in search results.) The more links you build to point people back to your site from Pinterest, the better your search results will be.

3. Enhance your keyword strategy.

Google now indexes personal Pinterest profiles and private Pinterest boards. Adding keywords to your boards increases the odds of them appearing in a search.

4. Add “pin it” buttons to your blog.

Pinterest has a “pin it” button similar to the Facebook “like” button and Twitter’s “tweet” button. You can add a “pin it” button to your blog so users can share your images on Pinterest with a link back to your site.

5. Use commonly searched keywords.

The best way to choose keywords is to guess how search engine users think. Use common keywords people will use to search for things.

6. Pay attention to analytics.

One reason why I think Pinterest is better than Facebook is because you will find more details on Pinterest sources in Google Analytics than sources from Facebook. Analytics will tell you which item earned the referral click, and allow you to click through to see the item on Pinterest.

7. Link back to your site.

A picture is worth a thousand words. If you showcase your images with a link back to your site, you will get more attention than if you share an image with a link on Facebook. Pinterest helps you drive more quality traffic to your website.

These are my insights on how Pinterest can boost your company’s SEO. Do you have any other ideas?
