Social media updates and new features to know this week

Including LinkedIn, Snapchat, Reddit and more.

A new report from Pangram estimates that 41% of LinkedIn’s long-form posts show signs of AI use, the highest rate among the platforms studied.

About a third of longer posts on X might also be AI-generated, according to the report.

The numbers aren’t exact because AI detectors can, of course, make mistakes, but they show how quickly automated posts are filling social feeds.

Platforms are starting to respond to growing concern over this. LinkedIn is reducing the reach of suspected AI spam, while Pinterest will now let users limit how much AI content they see through their settings options. We’ll keep an eye out and update you for how other platforms adjust.

Here’s what else is new.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is testing a new way for users to report posts or comments that “seem like AI slop.”

The reports will stay private and help LinkedIn improve how it identifies low-quality or overly automated content, according to Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan, who posted about the changes.

The platform also plans to tell creators privately in their analytics when users think a post sounds inauthentic or relies too heavily on AI.

Srinivasan says it is also removing its Enhance Your Post tool, which could rewrite a user’s content, replacing it with a proofreading feature designed to fix errors without changing the person’s voice.

“AI and slop are not the same thing,” Srinivasan wrote. “Many people refine thoughts with AI, and we believe they want to know when they sound inauthentic. Second, we want members to get feedback from real humans on what sounds authentic – not just have an AI detector review it and get it wrong.”

So while LinkedIn isn’t banning AI, it’s trying to draw a clearer line between using AI as an editing tool and using it to mass-produce posts and comments.

Snapchat

In the same vein, Snapchat is changing how videos are recommended in Spotlight, its TikTok-style feed.

Fully AI-generated videos are no longer eligible for recommendation. That means people can still post them, but Snapchat will not actively push them to more users.

The company says it wants to reduce low-quality AI content and give more attention to original videos made by real people.

Snapchat is also integrating lead-generation ads with HubSpot, per Social Media Today.

When a user fills out a form inside Snapchat, their information can now go automatically into a company’s HubSpot lists and sales pipeline.

The form fields will match up with HubSpot’s customer records, making the process simpler for marketing teams to hand off leads to sales.

Reddit

Reddit is developing a new video feature that would let people watch or listen to top Reddit posts, including spoken versions that could play in the background.

The idea is similar to the Reddit-story videos that are already popular on TikTok, where someone narrates a viral post over footage.

Reddit announced the change on its latest earnings call, per TechCrunch, and hasn’t explained exactly how the feature will work, but it plans to begin testing it later in 2026.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is rolling out several updates meant to make the app work better across different devices.

Drivers using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto can now hear and reply to messages, see their call history and reach contacts from their car screen.

People can also create a WhatsApp account directly on an iPad instead of first linking it to a phone, although they still need a phone number to receive the sign-up code.

Users will also be able to share songs from Apple Music or Spotify directly to their WhatsApp Status so friends can see what they’re listening to.

PDFs can now be opened, highlighted or lightly edited directly in WhatsApp on web and desktop, without downloading them first.

Instagram

Instagram is letting users go back and change the music on older posts and carousels without deleting and reposting them.

The Replace Audio tool will still keep the post’s existing likes, comments, shares and reach intact. Previously, changing a tune meant starting over with a new post entirely. The option will be available under the Edit section in the post menu.
