American Airlines in hot water over ‘beauty contest’

A flight attendants’ union blasted the carrier for a contest to determine who looks best in new scarves, ties, and striped shirts. Airline says its spotlighting the American brand.

The winners will appear as models in a company photo shoot.

A flight attendants’ union is not having any of it.

In a statement about American’s “Face of Your Base” contest, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants said:

“This campaign just transported us back 50 years to the days of girdles, weight-checks and single, female-only stewardesses having to quit when they were married, pregnant, or reached the ripe old age of 30.”
