AP to charge $2.50 per word to quote its articles

Plan on quoting an Associated Press article? Better have your checkbook ready—unless you’re really into brevity. To prevent non-paying members of the AP from hijacking its stories, the news organization will charge $2.50 a word to anyone who quotes more than four words of an AP article. Would you pay $12.50 to quote a line from an AP story?
