As deadline looms, N.C. governor remains firm on ‘bathroom bill’ [Updated]

Gov. Pat McCrory must respond today to the Department of Justice’s allegations that the state’s law violates the federal Civil Rights Act, lest it face legal action.

North Carolina has already lost jobs and money from PayPal, Deutsche Bank, big-name musicians and others as the backlash over the state’s controversial “bathroom law” grows, but it now faces the loss of billions in federal funds.

On May 6, the U.S. Department of Justice sent North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory a letter alleging that the law violates the Civil Rights Act.
