Authorities, eyewitnesses and reporters turn to Twitter during UCC shooting

After a gunman opened fire on a community college in Oregon on Thursday morning, many took to the social media platform to share—and learn—details.

On Thursday morning, a 20-year-old male opened fire on Umpqua Community College’s campus in Roseburg, Oregon. The state’s attorney general, Ellen Rosenblum, said 13 people died in the shooting, and various reports say up to 20 people were injured.

Douglas County’s fire department and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tweeted updates through official accounts:
