BBC identifies new trend: Tweeting with the TV on

Sure, it’s little more than watching the television while tapping on your mobile, but media executives are exploring ways to further the trend.

“A recent study from marketing agency Digital Clarity found that 80 per cent of [people younger than 25] used a second screen to communicate with friends while watching TV, and 72 per cent used Twitter, Facebook, or a mobile app to comment on shows.”

At the moment, “social TV” is little more than watching the box with one eye and tapping away on your mobile with the other, but the BBC says that TV executives are already exploring ways to enhance and further the trend.

Social media bosses are just keen to jump on the bandwagon. Robin Sloan, from Twitter’s media partnership team, told the BBC:
