Brand Twitter gaffes happen in threes

Microsoft, Esquire, and this Hollywood blockbuster committed social media blunders this week. Two of the three have apologized for it.

Microsoft apologized on Monday after one of its U.K. Twitter feeds encouraged users to honor the late Amy Winehouse by buying her final record. The tweet linked to Microsoft’s online marketplace.

Esquire magazine tweeted a link to an article on oral sex that referenced the alleged sexual assault committed by Dominique Strauss-Kahn. It, too, apologized.

What’s the third blunder?

Over the weekend, someone tweeting from the verified account for the movie Limitless decided to latch on to a trending topic with a tweet this tweet, “#whenblackpeoplegetpaid they download Limitless from iTunes,” which included an accompanying link.
