Can you hear me now? Senator divulges Dem’s strategy to reporters

Democrat Chuck Schumer revealed his party’s talking points during a conference call to reporters—problem is he didn’t know the media had already joined the call.

On Tuesday, Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer, the senior senator from New York, was on a conference call discussing talking points for the budget crisis. He didn’t realize reporters had joined the call, which was being recorded.

New York’s CBS affiliate describes what happened next:

Schumer was heard explaining to his fellow Democrats why he favors characterizing spending cuts proposed by the GOP as “extreme” and “draconian.”

“I always use the word ‘extreme,’ that’s what the caucus instructed me to do the other week,” Schumer said.
