Denver Broncos take a PR beating in dispute over band name

A punk band named Elway refused to change its name after a request from the NFL team. The story is picking up steam, making the Broncos look like corporate overlords.

It started with a Ft. Collins, Colo., punk band that had the audacity to call itself Elway. The Denver Broncos sent the band a letter, politely asking the band members to change the name.

The band, which admitted to USA Today that most of its concerts are “in front of about 30 people in a basement,” respectfully declined. As we’ve come to expect in the Digital Age, Web denizens, as they’re wont to do, ran with the story.

The Onion’s AV Club cleverly labeled it a “public-relations pick-six.”
