French clothing company Christian Dior announced Tuesday that it would fire chief designer John Galliano in the wake of a video showing him waxing anti-Semitic at a bar in Paris.
Dior CEO Sidney Toledano released this statement:
“I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”
Natalie Portman finds herself in the middle of it all.
She recently signed a deal to represent Miss Dior Cherie perfume, and a question from a reporter at Sunday’s Academy Awards was deflected—a move which drew even more attention to the issue than if it had been allowed.
