Did Edelman predict the Egyptian uprising — last summer?

Social media has played a large part in the protests in Egypt, but readers of Edelman digital’s blog knew that back in June.

The post, inspired by rhetoric from the State Department, identified social media as more revolutionary than radio or TV. It then briefly explored what’s happening in autocratic nations, including Egypt.

“Social media has incredible potential for mass organization because it allows information to spread organically to individuals’ personal networks,” Edelman Digital’s Marcia Newbert wrote. “In Egypt, young people are using Facebook to stand up for their political rights and organize strikes nationwide.”
