Dutch toddler scores hit on YouTube—and signs football contract

This smart PR stunt from a football team in the Netherlands is receiving loads of international coverage.

Baerke van der Meij and his family are supporters of the Venlose Voetbal Vereniging (VVV), a Dutch football team, according to The Telegraph. The boy’s grandfather once played professional football.

After creating a YouTube sensation with more than 1.8 million views, the toddler received a “symbolic” contract.

A VVV Venlo press release said:

“The toddler’s favourite position has not yet been determined. However, we can speak of a right-footed player with a very good kicking technique, perseverance and, importantly, football genes via his grandfather.”
