Edelman tops O’Dwyer’s annual list of PR firms—by a big margin

On Monday, O’Dwyer PR released its annual ranking of independent PR agencies, based on worldwide fees.

Edelman’s net fees totaled just shy of $522 million. No. 2 on the list is APCO Worldwide, which reported $113.4 million in net fees.

It was a good year for PR firms, according to Jack O’Dwyer, publisher of O’Dwyer’s Public Relations News.

“Firms did well in spite of the country being in the third year of a recession—no matter what the economists say—partly because there is lots of work dealing with the many thousands and even millions of new social media,” O’Dwyer said.

Every year, O’Dwyer’s Public Relations News ranks PR firms in a variety of categories.

O’Dwyer also noted that “only one of the 10 biggest firms reporting their numbers to O’Dwyer‘s had a down year in 2010—a sharp contrast to the 2009 reporting firms when eight of the ten were in the minus column.”
