Eurozone leader uses Twitter, puns to announce deal with Greece

Donald Tusk, the European Council’s president, said an ‘agreekment’ had been reached, but the terms would involve ‘strict conditions.’

The deal, which some say included a “brutal ultimatum,” calls for wide-reaching austerity measures.

European Council President Donald Tusk announced the news via Twitter:

EuroSummit has unanimously reached agreement. All ready to go for ESM programme for #Greece with serious reforms & financial support

Hel also dropped a pun in a press conference later in the day. CNBC reported:

In a press conference Monday, Tusk said “we have an ‘agreekment'” and said both sides had agreed in principle “to start negotiations on an (European Stability Mechanism) ESM program, which, in other words, means continued financial support for Greece.”
