Expulsion, suspensions plague Notre Dame football team

In a strongly worded statement, the university’s head football coach said, ‘The expectations we set for the members of our team are high.’

Six Notre Dame football players were arrested over the weekend. One player is accused of punching a cop outside a bar following fight, and five others face charges for marijuana and gun possession.

Cornerback Devin Butler, who faces battery and resisting arrest charges, was indefinitely suspended from the team.

In a separate incident, five players—Te’Von Coney, Max Redfield, Kevin Stepherson Jr., Ashton White and Dexter Williams—were arrested following a traffic stop about 50 miles away from Notre Dame’s South Bend campus. Three of the five passengers face unlicensed gun charges. All of them face a misdemeanor marijuana charge.
