Fake GE Twitter account lampoons company over tax issue

This week, General Electric defended itself on Twitter—and now the company is being mocked in the same venue.

In what proved to be an ill-fated attempt at media relations, General Electric hit the Twitter waves this week to try to set the record straight about a New York Times article claiming the company paid nothing in U.S. federal income taxes.

The @GEpublicaffairs account mentioned journalists who were tweeting the Times story, in some cases telling them to stop spreading false information.

That didn’t turn out so well.

On Tuesday morning, a fake Twitter account debuted lampooning the company.

The account is @GEfreedomreport, and it includes tweets like:
