Following exposé, Central Asia Institute hired Burson-Marsteller

Former Bush administration staffer Karen Hughes helped Greg Mortenson’s organization with the initial media crush, according to report.

It won’t be easy.

John Krakauer, the best-selling author and one of this generation’s greatest fact-finders, showed in his “Three Cups of Deceit” report that Mortenson lied about the number of schools his charity had built in Afghanistan and Pakistan and misappropriated some of the insane amount of money the organization was raking in.

The organization initially hired PR heavyweight Burson-Marsteller. One of its big hitters—Bush administration staffer Karen Hughes—was assigned to the case. However, according to The Daily Beast, CAI’s Anne Beyersdorfer said that relationship was “terminated after the initial media crush.”
