Former employee: Twitter needs more diversity

An article published on Medium by Leslie Miley where he questions Twitter’s commitment to diversity gains attention.

A former Twitter employee has put a face to an ugly truth: The tech industry has a diversity problem.

Leslie Miley, Twitter’s only black lead engineer, published this post on Medium that is getting lots of attention. In it, he details his experience at the company trying to champion its well-documented efforts to create “a more diverse Twitter.”

While he’s positive about his overall experience working for Twitter, Miley points to several instances where he questioned the lip service in Twitter’s commitment to diversity.

For example, when Twitter sponsored events that brought in leaders from the black community, Miley said the resource group that represents Twitter’s black employees, @blackbirds, was left out.
