Gannett spins off TV, digital arm with new name, Tegna

The name is an anagram of ‘Gannett,’ minus the doubled letters.

Media company Gannett is spinning off its publishing business, and it has a brand new name for the division: Tegna.

They called it Tegna.

It’s an anagram of Gannett (without the second “n” or the last “t”), and a play on the company’s stock-exchange ticker symbol, TGNA.

Tegna will run several of Gannett’s media operations, including TV stations, and, among others. Newspapers including USA Today will remain under the Gannett banner.
