Instagram receives backlash after deleting fake accounts

The social media platform’s CEO warned that profiles deemed spammy would be removed, but users freaked out anyway after their follower numbers decreased significantly.

Scores of teens apparently didn’t read Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom’s blog post last week that promised to deactivate and delete spam accounts.

“This means that some of you will see a change in your follower count,” Systrom wrote.

Instagram made good on its promise, and now this is happening:
