Instagram welcomes Pope Francis
The social media savvy pontiff recently broadened his online reach by joining the photo-sharing app.
Instagram is everywhere—including Vatican City.
Pope Francis joined Twitter three years ago and has gained nearly 9 million followers. For his next communications venture, he branched out to Instagram.
An hour after signing up, the BBC reported that he had gained 10,000 followers. Here’s his first post, which was uploaded on Saturday:

The pope has chosen “Franciscus” as his handle, which means “Francis” in Latin.
