A PR pro explains why he would hire an older applicant as opposed to a young one.

Many talk about gender discrimination in the workplace, but is age discrimination on the rise? If so, companies and agencies bypassing older applicants for younger ones are making a grave mistake, PR pro Craig Pearce warns in a blog post.

“Age delivers experience, one of the strongest influences on competency and excellence that exists, with PR being no exception,” he says.

Older workers can deal effectively with people, whether they are journalists, colleagues, senior managers or others. This is simply because they have had a chance to experience more situations than younger people, Pearce explains.

They also have a leg up when it comes to writing.
