The Web video of him went viral in January; he made the talk-show rounds; Kraft scooped him up to do voiceover work in their commercials, and the Cleveland Cavaliers were in talks to offer him a job.
Amid all the hoopla, the public learned Williams still had some problems with alcohol and was estranged from his family.
