Macy’s asks employees if they’d work Thanksgiving night

An internal poll gauging employee opinion on coming in to work at 7:30 p.m. on the day before Black Friday went public this week.

For those of you keeping score at home, that’s Thanksgiving night. Macy’s is asking whether its employees can work at 7:30 p.m. on the holiday—which in many households is prime napping time, wedged between first dinner/first dessert and second dinner/second dessert.

Of course, the intent is to get a jump on competitors for the Black Friday rush.

Consumerist first reported on the poll, which came from an unnamed tipster. Here’s one poll question:

The Thanksgiving Holiday is also a critical time and we are counting on you to help make it successful. Your store will open at 8 pm on Thursday, November 28th. We would like to know if you are able to work an opening shift beginning at 7:30 pm on Thursday, November 28th.
