Miss Universe stands by Miss Teen USA’s apology for racial slurs
The winner said she” used language publicly in the past which [she is] not proud of and that there is no excuse for.” The organization supported her following a backlash over old tweets.

Shortly after being crowned Miss Teen USA, Texan Karlie Hay learned this lesson and found herself embroiled in a social media scandal.
The controversy stemmed from a personal Twitter account bearing Hay’s name and likeness that used racial slurs in tweets that were posted in 2013 and 2014.

It should be noted that the account wasn’t verified, and its content is now private.
Still, Hay issued the following statement through her Instagram account:
