NHL team shows how NOT to handle a PR hangover

Last year, the PRSA of Chicago honored the Blackhawks’ president. This year, the team is struggling to fend off rumors about one of its hard-partying stars.

Last May, team president John McDonnough was honored by PRSA Chicago with a special achievement award for his efforts to “turn around public perception of the team.” That’s a mere two years after he was named the organization’s Executive of the Year. Sports Illustrated hailed the Hawks last year as “a model franchise.”

The franchise’s meteoric rise culminated with the team’s winning the Stanley Cup, ending a 48-year championship drought.

Mind you, this all happened less than a year ago.
