APS‘s employee newsletter On is filled with crisp writing and compelling headlines

APS‘s employee newsletter On has some great headlines. Here’s one from the cover of a recent issue (over a story about one division’s attempt to rid its filtering system of algae): ‘Take that, pond scum.” Another headline in the same issue suggested a theme “A mountain of manure” (which lead into a story in turning farm animal byproduct into fuel).

The writing in the body of stories is almost always as crisp and compelling as the heads it follows. Here’s an excellent lead from a story about an operation in Keams Canyon, Ariz.:

“East of Winslow, take AZ 87 north to AZ 264, turn right and go to Milepost 402. The directions are the first indication that this is not a typical APS office. Rather, it is a bridge between the past and the present, an office that must effectively conduct company business while being sensitive to and respectful of the culture and traditions of a society that remains true to its history.”
