Keisha-Gaye Anderson

Poet, Author, Communications Strategist

Keisha-Gaye Anderson is an award-winning poet, author, visual artist, and communications consultant. Her books include Everything Is Necessary (Willow Books), Gathering the Waters (Jamii Publishing), and A Spell for Living (Agape Editions), which received Agape Editions' Editor’s Choice Award. Her poetry, fiction, and essays have appeared in numerous anthologies and literary magazines, including Kweli, Small Axe Salon, Peregrine, Prairie Schooner, Renaissance Noire, The Caribbean Writer, and The Langston Hughes Review. As a featured author, Keisha has appeared at Dodge Poetry Festival, NY Historical Society, the Brooklyn Museum, Weeksville Heritage Center, MoCADA Museum, and elsewhere. Keisha has received fellowships and/or grants from the NY Foundation for the Arts, NY Council on the Arts, and the Laundromat Project. Her early career background is in journalism and TV production for CBS, PBS ("NOW With Bill Moyers"), Japanese TV (NHK), and magazines like Black Enterprise, Essence, Psychology Today, and Teen People. Keisha received the Poetic Icon Award from her alma mater Syracuse University in 2021 and was named a Brooklyn Public Library Artist in Residence in 2018. In 2024, she received the Martha’s Vineyard Institute for Creative Writing Poet & Author Fellowship. Keisha earned her bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and her M.F.A. from The City College, CUNY. Keisha is a member of the part-time English faculty at LaGuardia Community College, CUNY and teaches workshops at Poets House and elsewhere. She is based in Brooklyn, NY.
