Meghan Hughes is communications director for Denver’s Department of Public Health and Environment, bringing more than 20 years of experience in communications, marketing and branding for government agencies. Her background includes managing crisis communication on issues ranging from environmental spills to large-scale foodborne illness outbreaks and dog attacks. At Denver’s Department of Public Health and Environment, Hughes helped craft and communicate policy on high-profile social, environmental and public health issues, from the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana to policies that affect climate change and breed specific legislation. Hughes currently manages communications and community involvement for the department’s Hazardous Material and Waste Management, promoting public education campaigns and managing public involvement communities affected by environmental contamination.
