A sign on the door of The Sushi Bar in Alexandria reads, “Welcome. This is an adults-only environment. No children under 18.”

Backlash from area parents has been fierce. The restaurant’s Facebook page is full of comments from parents who have no plans to eat there any time soon. But there are also plenty of posts supporting the decision from all over the country, including this one from Amber in Indiana:

“I have 3 children, and when I go out for date night it is nice to enjoy [an] adult- only atmosphere. Sometimes a break from kids, your own or others, sets a relaxing tone and I am not into bars and clubs, but quiet dinner and conversation. Thank you! I wish we had places like that around here!”
