Snapchat, Twitter celebrate Pope Francis’ visit with filter and emojis
The social media platforms are offering features to help users talk about the pontiff’s U.S. appearance.
Twittter has released a series of special emojis to accompany the official hashtags for the visit.
There’s the broad #PopeInUS hashtag, which features the Pontiff in front of an American flag. Then there’s #PopeInNYC, #PopeInDC and #PopeInPhilly, which feature the Statue of Liberty, Capitol Building and Liberty Bell, respectively.
The hashtag and emojis will work on the social media platform until Sunday, when the Pope leaves. You can follow his visit with this curated list from Twitter.
Snapchat, meanwhile, has added a local filter to the areas the Pope is visiting.
The filter is a cartoon of Pope Francis in the Popemobile—which Pope Francis doesn’t actually use. There’s also text. “They see me rollin’,” it reads, with “Pope in D.C.” beneath it. There will also be specific filters for the other cities he visits.
