Stop starting your sentences with ‘so,’ an anti-jargon author urges
John Rentoul, author of The Banned List: A Manifesto Against Jargon and Cliché, calls the practice ‘a plague.’
It’s so annoying to some members of the media that they’re taking it upon themselves to correct this annoyance. One of those media folks trying to quash “so” is John Rentoul of The Independent in Great Britain.
He told BBC Radio: “It must have been original and quite catchy once. But now it’s become a plague in the printed media and on the radio as well.”
