London-based Vitis PR carried out the survey; the results were published today on the company’s blog.

Among the journalists surveyed, 37 percent said they use wires daily, while another 30 percent indicated they use them occasionally. Twenty-one percent said they never use newswires. (By newswires, the survey refers to press release feeds or press release distribution services.)

Meanwhile, 54 percent said the most valuable service is PR Newswire, followed by the U.K.’s Press Association (38 percent), SourceWire (37 percent), and Businesswire (34 percent). Many of the respondents also mentioned industry-specific newswires, including NewsPress (automotive), Headline (automotive), Gamespress, and Technology4Media.
