Target holiday sweater sparks debate

Some Twitter users see the ‘Obsessive Christmas Disorder’ sweater as being in poor taste.

Chances are this Christmas season you’ll be invited to an ugly sweater party. You should go—they’re fun. But you shouldn’t wear this Target sweater because someone might take offense.

Introducing the latest entry to the pantheon of novelty wear that potentially is in poor taste: The Obsessive Christmas Disorder sweater.

It’s your standard ugly sweater, only it includes a message that’s slightly on the incorrect side of politically correct. “OCD,” it reads. “Obsessive Christmas Disorder.”

Classic joke, right? Not if you’re one of the estimated 3.3 million Americans living with actual OCD—obsessive compulsive disorder.

Hey @target? How about we NOT sell shirts mocking mental illness? https://t.co/QcKWCDs2O4

@Target I can’t believe you’re selling this in your stores. OCD is not something you joke about. pic.twitter.com/8Rz979dSaK
