When a company’s servers are breached, it can cause customers to question your reliability. If it’s your constituents, a security breach may have them questioning their safety.

The CIA is the latest in a growing list of companies and high-profile organizations that have been hacked in a recent rash of security breaches. Hacker group LulzSec was able to take down the CIA’s website—cia.gov—for a couple of hours on Wednesday. The group took responsibility for the hack via Twitter.

Though the motive is almost always different in these cases, the constant is the embarrassment that the targets feel and the necessity to bolster security in the aftermath.
