How verbs could help predict a stock market crash. And here we thought the economic crisis was caused by the mortgage meltdown. Turns out it was just nouns and verbs. The Toronto Star covers a new study from University College Dublin suggesting that the nouns and verbs used by financial journalists can actually help shape the markets. From one of the study’s authors: “Basically what we find is that when you plot the changes in the amount of agreement and disagreement (in language), it parallels the stock-market indices.”
