Twitter announced Wednesday that it would remove its 140-character limit for direct messages, offering users a 10,000-character limit.
The change will be available starting with its mobile apps, website, Tweetdeck and Twitter for Mac, and then be rolled out globally over the next several weeks.
Twitter product manager Sachin Agarwal told The Verge that longer DMs are Twitter users’ most requested change. It will join other recently added features such as the ability to send links and photos within DMs, as well as group messages.
Agarwal also said in a company blog post that the recent change would make DMs a powerful tool for communicating online:
