Twitter users welcome Pope Benedict to the site in bizarre ways

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church has a Twitter account, which he plans to begin using on Dec. 12. Thus far, his greeting to the site has been … weird.

The handle has yet to be verified, but the Vatican on Monday confirmed the handle, which has more than 135,000 followers as of 11 am ET.

So, what will a holy tweet look like?

It will be “spiritual” in nature and come from the pontiff himself.

“All the pope’s tweets are the pope’s words,” Greg Burke, senior media advisor to the Vatican, said during a news conference. “Nobody is going to be putting words into his mouth.”

The pope will also answer questions that include the hashtag #askpontifex.
