Unpaid internships in PR called ‘morally indefensible’

This practice of unpaid internships—or unpaid labour, as it’s called—has come under fire after a BBC2 programme/PRWeek story exposed fashion PR agency Modus Publicity for staffing as many as 20 unpaid interns. The story caused quite the kerfuffle.

A former director at Burson-Marsteller told PRWeek he is “ashamed” of his industry peers for hiring unpaid interns. Public Relations Consultants Association chief executive Francis Ingham told PRWeek his organization was examining this issue.
